  • 2003 CIA World Factbook - Country information including geography, government, economy, communications, transportation, military and transnational issues.
  • BUBL Catalogue of Internet Resources - Links to information about all countries.
  • Commonwealth of Nations - Information and links to all countries which form part of the Commonwealth.
  • Country Analysis Briefs - The Country Analysis Briefs (CABs) provide an overview of the energy situation for all countries that are members of OPEC, non-OPEC countries in the politically volatile Persian Gulf region, major non-OPEC oil exporters, and other countries or regions that are of current interest to energy analysts and policy makers.
  • Country Briefings (Economist.com) - Reports for 60 countries on forecasts, economic and political profiles, core statistics, essential recent articles and in-depth surveys from The Economist.
  • Country Commercial Guides - country Commercial Guides are prepared annually by U.S. embassies with the assistance of several U.S. government agencies. These reports present a comprehensive look at countries' commercial environments using economic, political and market analysis. Also available from this site is broad country information and market research.
  • Country Reports on Economic Policy and Trade Practices - Produced by the U.S. Bureau of Economics & Business Affairs, these provide a comparative analysis of the economic policies and trade practices of countries with which the U.S. have a significan economic or trade relationship.
  • Center for International Development at Harvard University - Publications on-site include an extensive compilation of working papers as well as links to statistical sites, etc.
  • International Energy Outlook 2003 - Report from the Energy Information Administration offers an outlook for energy markets in almost every major country in the world through 2020.
  • IMF Country Information and IMF Member Country Publications - Range of publications produced by the International Monetary Fund.
  • The Library of Congress Country Studies - This online series presently contains studies of 85 countries which include a description and analysis of political, economic, social, and national security systems and institutions, and an examination of the interrelationships of those systems and the ways they are shaped by cultural factors.
  • PRAXIS - Resources for Social and Economic Development.
  • US State Department Background Notes - Geographical region and country information which includes geography, people, government, economy, political conditions and travel and business information.
  • World Bank Annual Report 2003 - Report charts global economic progress and explains the World Bank's involvement in many aspects of the world economy.
  • World Bank Group Regions and Countries - This site concentrates on over 100 developing economies bringing a mix of finance and ideas to improve living standards and eliminate the worst forms of poverty. Information includes country profiles and the specifics of regional initiatives and strategies.
  • World Development Reports - Analysis of factors shaping world development, including selected world development indicators.
  • World Economic Outlook Reports - This semi-annual comprehensive survey of the outlook of the world economy, from the staff of the International Monetary Fund, looks at world economic development and future prospects.

  • Human Sciences Research Council - Provides news and research on South African social sciences, including economics, social analysis, education and governance.
  • MBendi - Information profiles for African countries which include basic country data and more detailed business, economic and industry information for selected countries/regions.
  • Poverty in Africa - a key sector of the World Bank Country groupings, this site provides information on monitoring and measuring poverty, a household survey databank, as well as partners and related resources. The Survey Navigator provides a tool for locating and accessing survey & census data and documentation, which can be sorted by country, name, type or year. The Document Navigator presents user with a customisable search page allowing users to determine search parameters using the specific criteria.

  • European Governments Online - Provides links to official web sites for a range of country information.
  • EU News
  • Europe and Central Asia - Provides publications and reports produced by the International Finance Corporation on this region.
  • Eurasianet - Includes links to environmental, business and economics, arts and culture, news, etc., resources for central eurasian countries.


Latin America & the Carribean

  • The Latin American Development Archive - LADARK contains data sets and other information useful to social scientists who are doing research on Latin American development.
  • Latin American Research Group - The Research Group, part of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, studies economic, financial, and political developments in Latin America and the Carribean.
